First select the application.
I'm taking example of Opera here.
Step 1 : Right Click on the application icon and click on "Properties".

Step 2 : Go to Shortcut Tab once you click on Properties.
Step 3 : In Shortcut tab you can see "Shortcut key" field
Configure it according to what you wish. In my case i have kept it "Ctrl + Alt + O" since "O" is for Opera.

Step 4 : Click Ok with Mouse to make sure that you dont change the shortcut accidently.
Thats it. You can now check for yourself that when you press the specified shortcut, your software opens. :)
